It's time to replace your tyres, where do you go? Often the easiest option is to take your car into your local garage. The issue with this is unless you spend your spare time studying tyre price fluctuations this can be a very risky and costly approach as you are at the mercy of your mechanic. They have the ability to charge you almost anything they want. This is where sites like ours come in to help! Sites like Tyre Baron provide upfront pricing that can be compared across multiple different sites, but like your local mechanic different sites often have many tricks up their sleeve to extract as much money from your wallet as possible! Here are a few things to look out for online:
Have you ever seen ridiculous deals like a plane ticket from Perth to New York for $200? You get excited so you click on the deal only to find out that when you reach the checkout it costs $200 per bag checked-in, $100 to choose your seat as well as a bunch of other hidden costs. The exact same pricing strategy is used in the tyre industry. Often these "additional cost" come in the form of fitting and shipping which sometimes add up to be more than the price of the tyre itself.
Don't fall for these tactics next time you shop. Make sure you compare final checkout prices to ensure you get the best deal. At Tyre Baron we try to make the buying process as easy as possible. We have no hidden costs at checkout so the prices you see listed when you are browsing the store is the price you pay!
Some sites try to sneak additional items in your cart without you knowing. The only services you need when replacing tyres is fitment, wheel balancing and shipping. You cannot avoid these charges when replacing your tyres, any additional extras added to your cart may be unnecessary.
A common item added is a wheel alignment. Maintaining proper wheel alignment is essential to avoid unnecessary wear on your tyres, steering, suspension and brakes. Accurate wheel alignment maximises tyre life and improves your vehicle's overall handling performance. That being said there is a caveat, alignments only need to be done every 2-3 years or when you are changing the size of your tyres. It is not something that needs to be done every time you change your tyres. To find out if a wheel alignment has been done recently try to find the receipt from when you last changed your tyres, it will be stated on that. When in doubt we do recommend getting an alignment, it's a small cost relative to the amount of damage that could occur if your wheels are misaligned.
Getting an unnecessary wheel alignment will not damage your car but it will damage your wallet and takes a few hours to get done. At Tyre Baron we provide you with the option at checkout to get a wheel alignment but it is not added automatically.
The more the merrier? When you go to search for tyres on some sites 100's of different tyres options will come up being compatible with your car. Usually a wide selection is good for consumers but in reality this is designed just to confuse customers. When you are given too many choices it becomes overwhelming and can be hard to make a decision. But it's ok these sites are here to help! or are they?
These sites often provide a "staff pick" or "recommended tyre" at the top of the page. Usually these "recommendations" are just the tyres that make them the most money by having good margins. They are not necessarily the best fit for your car.
On Tyre Baron's store we handpick a selection of tyres for each size, on average only providing around 5 options which range from a budget option to a high-performance option. This helps you choose what tyres suit your needs the most.
Whenever you see a deal you should ask yourself why is that company offering the deal? Some companies may offer a deal because they are trying to clear old stock or something similar, in this case it's a win-win for the customer and company. The issue arises when it is only a good deal for the Company. This is often the case with one of the most common deals in the tyre industry. You have probably seen the deal "Buy 3 tyres get the 4th on free!", it's offered by several different companies. It may seem like a good deal but more often than not you don’t need the extra tyres.
90% of the time when you need to replace your tyres you only need to buy two, the front or rears tyres. This is because on most cars you engine only turns one set of wheels, the front or the rear. This causes the tyres on those wheels to wear down the tyres quicker than the ones the engine isn't connected to.
This deal is designed to target people who only need two tyres replaced by convincing them that for just a few more $$$ you can get all four tyres replaced. It the vast majority of cases you don't need all your tyres replacing.
At Tyre Baron we keep it simple as we only create %Off promotions. For example, we may run a 10% off promotion on a certain tyre this means if buy 1 or 10 tyres we will give you the same 10% discount. This puts no pressure on you to order unnecessary tyres.
